- In the song “Doo Wah Diddy Diddy”, am I the only one who hears “I’m hurt, she’s mad, wedding bells are gonna chime”?
- Mahler No. 5 is pretty damn good. It took me about 5 years to get around to listening to it, for some reason.
- Was also listening to Schubert No. 9 on repeat last night. If I die before I see Vertiginous Thrill of Exactitude live, I’ll be so pissed. And dead. But also pissed. I wonder if it’ll ever be performed in a non-gala event.
- Getting the itch to start up violin again, but I don’t know if I have the time or energy.
It always seems to happen
Every time I have a few days off and say to myself that I will do a bunch of writing, I try to write and then am stuck. To be fair, this shit is depressing. Other news:
- Nice performance by Stanford in the Orange Bowl. The new year is starting off on a pretty good note. Too bad Harbaugh and Luck are almost certainly gone.
- The internal blu ray drive arrived and installed. Somehow I ran out of sata power plugs, so I had to buy one on amazon. Maybe having 4 hard drives is a bit too much anyway.
- Caved in and bought Apollo’s Angels. Still not sure when I’ll have the time to read it. My book queue is getting quite long again.
- These ankle and leg strengthening exercises seem to be working. Now I feel as though my right leg is stronger than my left. I don’t know why they can’t just be the same.
- Am most definitely not looking forward to this okcupid profile-creation event this weekend. It’s ridiculous, but I still don’t feel I’m ready yet. Remember that time when I signed up for eharmony and it told me there was only one person who matched within a 500 mile radius?
New Year’s Resolutions 2011
A set of goals that I want down in writing so that maybe I will adhere to them. Accomplishing all of them is almost surely a probability zero event.
In approximate decreasing order of possibility:
- Save $X from paychecks.
- Enroll in the torture that will be Pilates class. Eventually, I’ll have to strengthen my core, might as well be sooner than later.
- Go travel somewhere. Summer has your name written on it, Singapore and Southeast Asia.
- Learn to do stuff at work. Find a niche and be more productive in general.
- Strengthen ankles. Pointe? Still a little scared to ask such a thing, but it would be quite the rout if it actually happens. I might have to lose 5-10 lb, which would push this item down a few notches on this list.
- Work on, and hopefully complete, writing down all this personal philosophy.
- Be able to do: double (triple?) pirouettes, grand pirouettes, splits (or closer to), single tours, entrechat trois and quatre, brise, etc. etc. Learn the Russian variation for NC.
- Go on a bona fide date. I already loathe putting this on the list, but it will probably have to be done at some point. I guess this is a little easier than the perennially elusive “get a girlfriend for seriously this year.”
